This metapackage depends on the NVIDIA binary driver and librariesthat provide optimized hardware acceleration ofOpenGL/GLX/EGL/GLES/Vulkan applications via a direct-rendering X Server. Please see the nvidia-kernel-dkms ornvidia-kernel-source packagesfor building the kernel module required by this package. This will provide nvidia-kernel-418.226.00.This version only supports GeForce, Quadro, NVS, Tesla, ... GPUs based on theKepler, Maxwell, Volta, or newer architectures. Look at the legacy packagesfor older cards.See /usr/share/doc/nvidia-driver/README.txt.gzfor a complete list of supported GPUs and PCI IDs.Building the kernel module has been tested up to Linux 5.17. Device drivers are the software interfaces that talk directly to the physical graphics hardware. The PCI\VEN Code can be broken down into parts that relate to the hardware manufacturer, the category of the hardware and the revision of the hardware. The first part, the "PCI\VEN_", is specific to the manufacturer, nVidia has the PCI\VEN code of "PCI\VEN_10DE". The "&DEV_" part of the code relates to the hardware, in this case the "DEV_0326" relates to graphics hardware, specifically the GeForce FX 5500 (NV34). If the graphics device is slow or just seems to be not working, then it is likely that the driver is a generic driver, is not installed correctly or is just broken. For use only with the nVidia GeForce FX 5500 (NV34) device, an up-to-date list of downloads is shown below.
For the most complete and accurate listing of supported GPUs,please see the Supported Products List, available from the NVIDIALinux x86_64 Graphics Driver download page. Please go to , follow theArchive link under the Linux x86_64 heading, follow the link forthe 410.104 driver, and then go to the Supported ProductsList.
Note that the list of supported GPU products provided below andon the driver download page is provided to indicate which GPUs aresupported by a particular driver version. Some designsincorporating supported GPUs may not be compatible with the NVIDIALinux driver: in particular, notebook and all-in-one desktopdesigns with switchable (hybrid) or Optimus graphics will not workif means to disable the integrated graphics in hardware are notavailable. Hardware designs will vary from manufacturer tomanufacturer, so please consult with a system's manufacturer todetermine whether that particular system is compatible.
Note: You may attempt to immediately load the kernel module into the runningkernel by issuing a command like kldload nvidia, however it hasbeen noted that the latest versions of Xorg will not functionproperly if the driver is not loaded at boot time. After editing /boot/loader.conf, a reboot is recommended.
To install the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Video Card driver, download the version of the driver that corresponds to your operating systemby clicking on the appropriate link above. A window should then show up asking you where you would like to save the file. Save the driver file somewhereon your computer where you will be easily able to find it, such as your desktop. Then follow the instructions below corresponding to the file type that youdownloaded 2ff7e9595c
